Jonathon Naylor Editor The meeting room erupted into applause Tuesday night as trustees Murray Skeavington and Karen Yeo retained their leadership positions with the Flin Flon School Board. Trustee Skeavington was acclaimed to a second consecutive year as board chair. Trustee Yeo was also acclaimed to again serve as vice-chair. When secretary-treasurer Heather Fleming called for nominations for the positions, none of the trustees spoke up to nominate any other candidates. Skeavington is among the most experienced trustees, having first joined the board in 2002. Yeo joined the board in 2006. Also at the meeting, the board tentatively set its committees for 2012-13. On the Facilities and Grounds Committee are trustees Skeavington, Yeo and Tim Davis. The Flin Flon Teachers Association Negotiating Committee consists of trustees Skeavington, Davis and Trish Sattelberger. The United Steelworkers Negotiating Committee includes trustees Vicki Davie, Angela Simpson and Glenn Smith. The Finance, Policy and Strategic Planning committees consist of all seven trustees. Technology Representing the board on the school division's Technology Committee is Trustee Smith. He is also the board's rep on the Pre-Med Scholarship Committee aimed at bringing more doctors to Flin Flon. Trustee Davie will represent the board on the Workplace Safety Committee, with Trustee Simpson on the Bursary Committee. Trustee Sattelberger is on the Suspensions Committee, with Trustee Skeavington on the City of Flin Flon Traffic Commission. The board decided to delete its representative on the Social Committee and eliminate the Queen's Park Committee now that most of the initial legwork for improvements to the park are complete. Queen's Park will now be overseen by the Facilities and Grounds Committee. A motion to finalize the committees is expected to pass at the next board meeting on Sept. 25.
