Provincial funding to the division has increased by just under $144,000, and municipal funding has increased by just over $224,000 over the past year.
The cost of regular instruction will increase by just over $72,000 for the 2018-2019 year, while the budget for student support services will increase by just over $32,051.
MSBA Award
Grade 12 student Mikylo Odut was the recipient of a Student Citizenship Award from the Manitoba School Boards Association (MSBA) during its annual general meeting in February.
Odut, who attends Hapnot Collegiate, takes an active role in his school community, sitting on student council and grad committee and helping with daily announcements.
“I think it is important to be a leader since people know who to look up to,” said Odut.
“If you have experience or can simply answer some questions people might have, they are less lost and can look to someone for help. I always like to help people, and what better way to do that than by joining different clubs and community groups and being a leader?”
Odut is one of six finalists in the running for the Association of Manitoba Municipalities George Harbottle Memorial Award. The award will be given out on March 15.
Hapnot Collegiate’s Gay Straight Alliance – Equality and Social Justice Club also received a certificate of recognition from the MSBA.
Test results
The Flin Flon School Division received results for French immersion testing of its Grade 3 and 4 students. Superintendent Constance McLeese said the students are meeting and exceeding provincial standards in several areas.
“In English language, our French immersion students meet and exceed provincial standards and in French reading they are exceeding provincial standards,” said McLeese.
“In math, which is taught in French, they are exceeding provincial standards.”
Seminar
The Manitoba Education Research Network (MERN) will cease to exist on March 31. Its final conference will take place on March 9, with several Flin Flon School Division staff leading sessions at the event.
