Saskatchewan grant helping parents save for education

Over 26,000 children have benefited from the more than $6.7 million offered by the Saskatche-wan Advantage Grant for Education Savings (SAGES) program.

Over 26,000 children have benefited from the more than $6.7 million offered by the Saskatche-wan Advantage Grant for Education Savings (SAGES) program.

The SAGES program helps parents to save for their children’s post secondary education and their future.

Through SAGES, the Government of Saskatchewan provides a grant of 10 per cent on financial contributions made since Jan. 1, 2013, into a Registered Education Savings Plan (RESP) to a maximum of $250 per child per year.

The child must be a resident of Saskatchewan when the RESP contribution is made.

The child must be named as a beneficiary of an eligible RESP.

The contribution must be made on or before December 31 of the year the child turns 17.

Contributions to the RESP’s must be made at participating financial institutions.

“We have seen significant growth in the number of families enrolled in SAGES since its launch, and the numbers continue to increase,” Advanced Education Minister Kevin Doherty said.
