More fingerwork will be needed for Creighton and Denare Beach residents placing local calls. Effective tomorrow, May 11, every local call originating in Saskatchewan will require all 10 digits be dialed. Callers who fail to include the area code will receive a recorded message asking them to hang up and redial using the area code. The call will no longer be automatically completed as has been the case since late February. Programmed Ron Styles, president and CEO of SaskTel, says all phone numbers stored in communication systems and devices Ñ such as alarm systems, Internet connections and call-forwarding devices _ should be programmed for 10-digit dialing. Individuals should include an area code in all instances where they need to provide a contact number, such as medical forms, stationary, business cards and insurance forms. The change does not impact long-distance calls, 1-800 numbers or special three-digit numbers such as 911. The change is necessary with Saskatchewan set to gain a second area code, 639. Manitoba made the switch to 10-digit dialing last October, as that province has also gained a second area code, 431.
