Sask. sees COVID-19 increases, 14 new far north cases Friday and Saturday

COVID-19 is seeing an uptick in Saskatchewan, with eight new cases found Friday and another 11 Saturday. Most of the 19 combined cases - seven June 19 and another seven reported June 20 - have been reported in the far north of the province.

COVID-19 is seeing an uptick in Saskatchewan, with eight new cases found Friday and another 11 Saturday.

Most of the 19 combined cases - seven June 19 and another seven reported June 20 - have been reported in the far north of the province. Provincial health officials have not revealed which communities the cases were located in.

Of the five non-far north cases found June 19-20, one found June 19 was located in Saskatoon, while the cases reported June 20 were in southern Saskatchewan (two cases), the northern region (one cases) and in Saskatoon (one case).

Saskatchewan has reported a total of 726 cases of COVID-19, including 72 active cases. Of the province's total cases, 411 have been reported in either the north or the far north. Saskatchewan has reported more cases within northern communities than Manitoba has reported cases anywhere in the province during the entire outbreak.

A new outbreak of COVID-19 was declared in Saskatchewan June 17 in southwestern Saskatchewan after several cases of COVID-19 were reported in Hutterite communties in the RM of Maple Creek. In total, 16 positive cases were confirmed by the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) as of June 17 due to the outbreak.

Manitoba did not release new case details June 20, but did announce three new cases of the disease June 19. Eleven total active cases are remaining in Manitoba, which has reported 311 total cases of COVID-19.

Two of the new cases were reported in the Southern Health-Sante Sud health region. One of the individuals reported as a positive attended an eatery - JT's Store and Diner in Blumenort - June 10. Public health officials are asking any people who attended the business to self-monitor for symptoms.
