Winston McKay, the former mayor of Cumberland House, has been campaigning in the Creighton region for the upcoming Saskatchewan provincial election. McKay is the Saskatchewan Party representative for the northeastern region. The election is set for this Wednesday, November 5. The Saskatchewan Party, with 26 seats in the legislature, was the official opposition to the governing NDP who had 28 seats heading into the election. There were also four independents. McKay is fluent in Cree. Some of the issues he is concerned about include economic development for the north, protesting the Liberal gun legislation and opposing the federal same-sex marriage legislation. For those voters who want the northeastern region to reflect a more right-wing vision, McKay is ready to provide that kind of leadership. He is hoping the Saskatchewan Party takes over the provincial reigns this week, and that he also wins a seat to be a part of a new political landscape for the province. Political analysts in Saskatchewan are saying that the overall race between the Saskatchewan Party and the NDP for the right to govern the province is too close to call.
