Lieutenant Governor Vaughn Solomon Schofield will formally open the next session of the Saskatchewan legislature on Oct. 22, she announced yesterday.
“The opening of our Legislative Assembly involves a number of traditions that remind us of the historic roots of our parliamentary democracy,” Solomon Schofield said. “I’m grateful that the Government of Saskatchewan continues these traditions, because they are indicative of the value we place on our democratic institutions. I encourage members of the public to join us outside the Legislative Building to take part in the ceremony of this important day.”
The formal opening of the legislative assembly has taken place at the onset of each session since 1906 when representatives of the legislature, the executive and the judiciary first gathered to hear Lieutenant Governor Amédee Forget.
