Sask. drops down to 16 active COVID-19 cases, dozen people recover over weekend

One new case and 12 new recoveries - Saskatchewan's COVID-19 got a little brighter over the weekend. Between June 6-7, one new case of the disease was found within the province, located in an unknown community in the far north region.

One new case and 12 new recoveries - Saskatchewan's COVID-19 got a little brighter over the weekend.

Between June 6-7, one new case of the disease was found within the province, located in an unknown community in the far north region. Along with that came news June 7 of 12 new recoveries province-wide.

The slew of new recoveries means Saskatchewan's total number of active COVID-19 cases has dropped down to 16, almost comparable to Manitoba's rate. One month ago, Saskatchewan had 203 active cases of COVID-19.

Eight of those active cases are in the far north. According to most recent available community statistics, there are five active cases of the disease in La Loche, the community hit hardest by COVID-19 in far north Saskatchewan.

One person remains in intensive care due to COVID-19 in Saskatchewan - that person is hospitalized in Saskatoon. Eleven people have died from the disease in Saskatchewan, but 623 people have had the disease and recovered. Nineteen people were in hospital with COVID-19 on May 8.

Manitoba did not release new information regarding COVID-19 over the weekend.
