Some assistance for mineral exploration in Saskatchewan is coming, courtesy of the provincial government.
The budget for the Saskatchewan ministry responsible for mining – the Ministry of Energy and Resources – saw a modest increase for the next fiscal year. The announcement was part of the release of the province’s budget on April 10.
Over the next 12 months, the ministry will see an extra $665,000 in funding, about a 1.5 per cent increase from last year.
About $750,000 of the ministry’s funding will go toward a four-year mineral development strategy for northern Saskatchewan.
The announcement is in addition to $1 million allocated last year by the provincial economy ministry for airborne geophysical surveying around northeastern Saskatchewan. Tenders were opened for geophysical surveying related to the project in March.
In addition, the province will increase availability of tax cuts through the Mineral Exploration Tax Credit. The credit is available to people and companies working in Saskatchewan who have applied to the Ministry of Energy and Resources.
