He’s coming back, a few days early. Santa Claus himself will make an appearance at this year’s Santa Claus Parade of Lights, taking place uptown Dec. 14 at 6 p.m.

The annual Flin Flon holiday tradition will take place after nightfall Thursday night and will wind through Flin Flon's Main Street area. Flin Flon Minor Hockey and the Flin Flon/The Pas under-15 hockey team will be the parade’s official hosts, while the event itself is sponsored by 102.9 CFAR, Hudbay, the Flin Flon and District Chamber of Commerce, the Flin Flon Neighbourhood Revitalization Committee, Flin Flon’s Main Street Committee and The Reminder.

Registrations could be made until the end of business hours Wednesday. Any organization, business, local group, individual or anyone can register a vehicle in the event, including quads, cars, trucks or others - outside lights for vehicles are encouraged. Those lights can be plugged into the lighter inside a vehicle using an inverter. People who are part of a parade float can also hand out candy or other items by walking along the parade, though throwing items from vehicles is not allowed for safety reasons.

Traffic control will be taken care of by organizers and each vehicle will drive down the centre of Main Street, with a police escort leading the way and other first responders, including firefighters, also taking part.

The main event of the show will be the big, jolly elf himself - Santa Claus, who will be located on the parade’s central float. To avoid confusion, anyone else taking part in the parade is asked to not dress up like Santa - only the man himself gets the honour of wearing the bright red suit during the parade.

The event will begin at 6 p.m., with all participants asked to meet up at the Whitney Forum parking lot by 5:30 p.m. to organize and have floats judged. The parade will follow the same route as it did last year, running up Main Street from the south to north.
