Ruth Betts Community School was approached by the Food Bank to help bring in food donations as their shelves were getting bare.
As the Student Council brainstormed ways to get donations from the students and their families, the idea of challenging students to meet certain goals and then having teachers do different things to match the goal was brought up.
Once word got out that students could do things like drench teachers with water guns (50 donations), tape them to the gym wall (300 donations), throw a pie at a staff member (450 donations), or see staff dressed up in costumes (500), they quickly began bringing in food items.
An assembly was held on Friday, October 18 where students got to see teachers live up to their end of the bargain, and it was announced that students brought in 759 non-perishable food items in four days.
With a population of approximately 245 students, student council leaders, Ms. Amber Kubat and Ms. Kali Senyk, were extremely impressed with the large amount of donations brought in by the students in such a short time.
On Tuesday, October 22, student council representatives, Destinee Lahonen (SC President) and Kalena Kittle, along with their student council leaders, loaded up two vehicles and delivered the food items to the Food Bank.
