The Royal Bank, as part of its Corporate sponsorship of Junior A Hockey in Canada, has a scholarship program. Each year, a recipient is selected from each Junior 'A' League in Canada and awarded a $1,000 scholarship which can be utilized at a Canadian University. This year's winner is Chad Haacke of the Melville Millionaires. Chad is a 5'11, 190 lb right winger from Melville, Saskatchewan. During regular season this 20 year-old accumulated 43 goals and 49 assists for 92 points and 160 penalty minutes in 59 games. Chad has shown tremendous leadership abilities in many roles such as captain of the Melville Millionaires, Referee in Chief for the Melville Minor Hockey Association, and as an assistant coach with the Melville Bantam 'AA' hockey club. During his hockey career which started at age 6 Chad has had many achievements. He was the Most Valuable Player in 1999-2000 for the Melville Millionaire Bantam 'AA' hockey team, 2nd leading scorer in South Sask Minor Hockey League in 1999-2000, Rookie of the Year for the Tisdale Midget 'AAA' Trojans in 2000-01, Mr. Hustle award for the Melville Millionaires in 2001-02 and 2002-03, co-winner of the Millionaires MVP award and 3 star award winner in 2002-03, Player of the Week and Month awards, as well as being the only unanimous selection to the SJHL All Star game held in Melfort this year. Chad graduated from the Melville Comprehensive High School in 2002 with an honor roll average of 85 and an SAT score of 980. His goal in education is to obtain his Masters degree in Education while continuing to play hockey at a College or University level.
