Recently, the Rotary Club of Flin Flon donated funds to support activities in the community.
The Whitney Forum received $2,000 toward the walking track and the 2328 Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps. received $2,500 for purchasing new equipment for youth activities.
Donated funds were raised from Operation Red Nose activities. During the month of December, the Rotary Club, along with other volunteer organizations and individuals, provide rides for people who have been out enjoying the season’s activities. All funds raised from this activity are put back into youth activities in the community.
During this past year, funds were also donated to assist in the purchase of a new boat for Camp Whitney, to the Sherridon Kichiwapaw Canoe Club, which provides water safety training and canoe activities for youth in that community, and to the local Habitat for Humanity branch, Habitat 53°.
The Rotary Club has also recently provided lesser amounts of funding to the following local organizations: Women’s Resource Centre for its V-Day events, the PARTY event (a mock collision event to educate Grade 10 students on the risks of high-risk behaviour such as drinking and driving), and the Flin Flon Fireworks Committee.
Internationally, the Rotary Club assists in projects such as a dental program in Guatemala in conjunction with Red River College and the UCN dental assisting program. Also in Guatemala, through our District 5550, we provide funding to construct schools and assist in providing equipment to run the schools.
This year the Rotary Club also provided funds to Shelter Box Canada to provide shelters to victims of the Philippine typhoon disaster.
The Rotary Club looks forward to the community’s continued support.
