Despite the current cold weather conditions, Manitoba's entire winter road system is not ready to open and remains closed to all traffic until further notice. Residents of all northern and remote communities served by the winter road system are advised that all ice crossings are closed and that no ice road is considered safe at this time. The ice thicknesses may not be sufficient to hold passenger or commercial vehicles of any size. Winter road preparations, which include ice making and snow clearing, are underway in some areas where it has been found safe to begin. However, the routes remain closed to everyone but authorized construction crews. Drivers are asked to respect the closure signs and stay off all sections of the winter road system until it is announced it is safe to travel.
