Repair work was underway yesterday on the massive sinkhole that halted traffic on the Hanson Lake Road outside of Creighton. One lane of traffic was permitted, as Department of Highways workers had filled in half of the gorge while working to repair the other half. At press time, no information was available as to when the repairs would be completed. The gorge had formed about 10 kilometres outside of Creighton on Wednesday after highway workers thawed a frozen culvert beneath the road. It's believed that when the water again flowed, it did so with such force that it eroded the soil around the culvert, causing the road to dip. Prior to the fill being in place, authorities did not permit anyone to drive or even walk over the chasm. The Hanson Lake Road is also known as Highway 106.
