Pregnancy doesn't come with an instruction manual, but Public Health hopes to come close with revamped prenatal classes. Beginning next month, the long-running sessions Ð now held at the the Primary Health Care Centre on North Ave. Ð will follow a new format designed to better meet the needs of moms-to-be. The prenatal classes used to run six consecutive weeks, but starting March 3, they will begin with two 'early bird' classes at the beginning of the pregnancy and end with four classes closer to the women's due dates. The first two classes will help the women adjust to the physical and lifestyle changes that accompany pregnancy, while the final four prepare them for the delivery and care of a newborn. The instruction, conducted by various professionals within Public Health, touches on topics such as proper nutrition and the do's and don't's of lifestyle during pregnancy. Also included is a tour of the Flin Flon General Hospital's maternity ward. The moms-to-be are always welcome to ask any questions they may have about their pregnancy or delivery. "Usually it's for people who are having their first baby, so they really depend on this to get to know more about what their body goes through and how to care for the baby," says Phyllis Kozak of the Infant and Child Youth Team, part of Public Health. The prenatal classes are free to attend. For more information, phone 687-1350.2/2/05
