Habitat 53° ReStore is just $1.86 away from reaching its first goal of $11,000.
Since opening the ReStore two more days per week, Wednesdays through Saturdays, Habitat’s Kathy McCormick says easily 100 people a week come through the doors.
Last year the store was only open on Fridays and Saturdays.
Demand at the store prompted Habitat Manitoba to extend the hours of the business, hoping to create more profit in the community.
The ReStore has a fundraising goal of $20,000 for the year. “We’re just over halfway there,” said McCormick. “We’re crossing our fingers. As long as the donations keep coming in and shoppers keep coming, we hope to meet our mark.”
McCormick said sales have increased by 20 per cent since the launch of the extended hours about a month ago.
However, while shoppers and donors are enjoying the extended hours, McCormick says most of the helpers are gone on summer holidays now.
“So, it’s just Joe and I right now,” she said, referring to her husband, Joe McCormick.
McCormick said she is grateful for anyone looking to volunteer – if even for a few hours – to help the success of the store.
