Flin Flon area residents continued to show their true colours by helping two major charities raise nearly $17,000 in recent months. April's door-to-door canvass for the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) raised $7,142, lower than the amount collected in the past but still considered by CCS as a solid number for an area of this size. CCS raised another $3,585 in this area through its sale of daffodils, which took place in the spring. Through its local door-to-door canvasses, CCS has now raised about $60,000 for cancer research, support and education since 1997. That's despite the fact that unforeseen circumstances prevented the canvass from taking place in 1998. Meanwhile, the Heart and Stroke Foundation's canvass in February brought in $6,205 worth of donations. Heart and Stroke Foundation canvassers are invited to attend an appreciation night on Tuesday, June 22, at the Victoria Inn beginning at 7 p.m. Al Ross, Brandon area manager for the charity, will attend.
