Starting Mar. 4, the red bag recycling program will run every Wednesday in Flin Flon.

The Recycling Centre is changing the schedule for red bag pick-ups from Flin Flon homes.

Beginning Mar. 4, the service will be available every Wednesday instead of every other week.

This pilot project will run for the next six months and will be assessed to see if weekly service encourages more people to recycle.

“This change makes recycling easier,” said Deb Odegaard, Recycling Centre administrator. “Every-week service increases the convenience of home pick-up without having to remember which week it is. It also means recycling requires less space in homes.”

The program can be utilized by purchasing a red bag for $3.50, which pays for the service.

Recyclables go into the bag, which is placed on the front curb each Wednesday. Two more bags or boxes will be picked up with each red bag.

Large cardboard does not need to be bagged. It should be flattened and placed under the bags.

Red bags are sold at the Gas Bar, Acklands-Grainger, Super K, Your Dollar Store With More, Pharmasave and the Recycling Centre.

Recycling should be placed on the front curb by 8:30 am every Wednesday. If the front curb doesn’t work well, contact the Recycling Centre to make other arrangements.

“The convenience provided by this program and the trailer in the parking lot beside Canadian Tire and Walmart means there is no reason for households not to recycle,” said Odegaard.

Information about what is recyclable is available at grocery stores, on the web at www.flinflonrecycling.org, the Flin Flon Recycling Facebook page or by calling 204-687-6169.
