Jonathon Naylor Editor Two-thirds of last year's members had returned to the Flin Flon and District Chamber of Commerce as of last week, an encouraging sign for an organization hoping to boost its community profile. The chamber had 106 members in 2011 and has repeatedly discussed ways to bolster that number to better represent the business community. That discussion continued at last week's executive meeting as manager Tersia de Jager said recent efforts to make phone contact with members have gone well. The calls have led to face-to-face meetings that allow the chamber to answer questions from business owners about the organization and its value to them. Secretary Doug O'Brien said he continues to encounter the question of why the chamber must hold its meetings over noonhour. Cindy McLean, a director, suggested semi-annual meetings could be held in the evenings. To entice members this year, the chamber is giving businesses that pay their dues early the chance to be included in a 'Buy Local' business directory. The initial deadline for inclusion in the directory has been extended to Feb. 10. The directory will be distributed throughout the area, helping promote businesses to a range of potential customers. The chamber had previously offered financial discounts to members that paid early. In another matter at the meeting, held at the Friendship Centre Restaurant, members agreed to a demonstration of a microphone the chamber may purchase for its guest speakers. The vendor will be invited to exhibit a microphone at the next chamber meeting.
