A trophy. Because trophies are nice. You deserve a trophy too.

The Reminder has received several nominations in the upcoming Saskatchewan Weekly Newspaper Associations (SWNA) Better Newspapers Competition.

The paper received nominations in three categories in the honours. Top three finalists for each category were announced March 31 - winners will be chosen in May. The nominations cover issues, stories, photographs and coverage published in 2022.

Reporter Eric Westhaver was one of three nominees in the Editorial Writing Excellence category and is one of three finalists in the Columnist of the Year category. The nominations come for Westhaver’s “In Our Words” columns, published each week on page 4 of The Reminder, typically on a local or regional issue.

Westhaver is also nominated in the Best Educational Coverage K-12 Single Story or Feature category for a story written in Sept. 2022 about the Flin Flon School Division and Creighton School Division creating new outdoor classrooms for local students.

The Reminder received six nominations in both the 2020 and 2021 editions of the awards, winning once last year.

As a newspaper that covers communities in both Manitoba and Saskatchewan and as a member of both the SWNA and the Manitoba Community Newspaper Association (MCNA), The Reminder is eligible to apply for annual awards from both organizations.

The Reminder thanks SWNA and the competition’s judges for their consideration and thanks its readers and community for their support.
