"There's always next year" is a familiar refrain for fans whose hockey teams constantly come up short. It's also becoming quite a common phrase around The Reminder office. For the third year in a row, we have lost to our media counterparts, CFAR-590, in the radio station's annual NHL Hockey Draft. Incredibly, just six points were the difference this season, as CFAR's two teams garnered 1,880 points compared to our teams' 1,874 points. For our fruitless effort, we again begrudgingly accepted our "Butt of the Year" trophy, which depicts the rear end of donkey. How humiliating. The overall winner of the draft was Melanie Roschuk, who will take home her choice of a vintage Vancouver Canucks or Quebec Nordiques jersey, as well as either a Shimano boundary pack or an Eskimo ice auger. After Melanie takes her picks, second-place Kyle Whitehead will get what's left. There are no prizes beyond second place, but we felt the top ten finishers deserved some recognition. Rounding out the list were Mary Evans; Don Ginter; Damian Dominey; Carl Hill; Brenda Russell; Tristan Toffan; The Reminder Team Two; and CFAR-590 Team One. Finishing in 345th place Ñ dead last Ñ was Celia Whitehead, who will also take home a Butt of the Year trophy for her mantel. See 'Challenge' P.# Con't from P.# While The Reminder and CFAR had a friendly challenge going on this season, we weren't the only ones. A cross-border challenge took place between the staffs of the Whitney Forum and the Creighton Sportex. The Sportex crew was the decisive winner, presenting their own Butt of the Year trophy to their Forum counterparts. According to one Forum staffer, rumour has it that a member of the losing staff next year will have to drop the puck at a Bomber game Ñ while wearing a dress. CFAR's hockey draft was again popular this year, with participants choosing a team of players whom they believe will score the most points. The draft had a charitable twist this year, as participants were encouraged to drop off a non-perishable food item for the Lord's Bounty Food Bank with their entries. About six or seven boxes of food were collected.
