Jonathon Naylor Editor Court proceedings in a local homicide case have shifted from The Pas to Flin Flon as the accused awaits his next appearance before a judge. Mitchell Whitbread was in Flin Flon Provincial Court last Thursday, June 7, at which time his case was remanded to Wednesday, Aug. 1, again in Flin Flon. Whitbread, 25, a Flin Flon resident, has yet to enter a plea. He is charged with second-degree murder in the apparent stabbing death of John (Kelli) Eyres, 31, also of Flin Flon, on May 12. The accused initially appeared in court in The Pas. Inquiry Crown prosecutor Todd Rambow said he suspects a preliminary inquiry will be held in Flin Flon at some point. He said it is difficult to predict when a plea will be entered. 'It's hard to put an exact (date) on it because you're often in homicide cases waiting for a lot of materials,' Rambow said. 'There will be obviously an autopsy report coming. That takes some time. There could be DNA, there could be other expert reports, so it's really hard to say.' Speaking from his office in The Pas last week, Rambow said he had seen 'very little' of the evidence in the case. Whether the second-degree murder charge changes, Rambow said, 'really depends on what the evidence tells me once I get it.' A call to Whitbread's lawyer was not returned. RCMP have released few details of the death.
