An ancient grave uncovered outside of Thompson contained what are believed to be the oldest human remains ever found in Manitoba. Discovered in 2001 during a routine survey, the remains of an aboriginal woman and a child are reportedly 6,500 years old. The story came to light yesterday in a Winnipeg Free Press article that stated the remains were found about 50 kilometres west of Thompson near Wuskatim Lake. David Finch, an archeological contractor, told the newspaper that a moose rack covering the child was carbon dated to estimate the age of the remains. The remains are being stored and analyzed at the University of Winnipeg, Finch said.
