A 19-year-old man has been charged in the stabbing death of another man in The Pas. RCMP report that at about 5 am last Friday, Dec. 12, police and paramedics attended an address on Tremauden Avenue in response to a reported stabbing.

RCMP report that at about 5 am last Friday, Dec. 12, police and paramedics attended an address on Tremauden Avenue in response to a reported stabbing.

A 42-year-old man from nearby OCN was transported to the local hospital for treatment but later died from his injuries. His name will not be released.

Police have charged Race Evan Shingoose of OCN with second-degree murder. He was scheduled to make his first court appearance on Monday.

Police said the two men were known to each other.

Exploration

Foran Mining Corp. has negotiated a non-brokered private placement of shares that will generate gross proceeds of up to $1.6 million.

The company plans to spend the money on exploration in the area of its flagship McIlvenna Bay mineral project, located 65 km west of Flin Flon.

Closing of the offering is anticipated on or about this Friday, Dec. 19. As of Sept. 30, the Vancouver-based Foran had a treasury of $3.36 million in cash and cash equivalents.

Mine school support

Northlands College will receive $1.84 million over three years
to help establish a mining school in northern Saskatchewan.

The funding comes courtesy of the International Minerals Innovation Institute, a not-for-profit organization jointly funded by industry and government.

Northlands said the contribution will allow it to develop key components of its mine school in Air Ronge, located just south of La Ronge.

Cut waste

Manitobans are being asked for their input on ways to make the province a leader in recycling and waste reduction.

The province has released discussion paper that proposes a goal of cutting in half the amount of waste going into Manitoba landfills by 2020.

Manitobans are being asked to comment on proposed actions to achieve the target, such as waste diversion.

The discussion paper is available on Manitoba Conservation’s website.
