Operation Red Nose brought 22 residents home safely Friday and Saturday, more than usual for the opening weekend of the service. Spearheaded by the Rotary Club, Red Nose provides volunteers to drive people home in their own vehicles when they feel unfit to go behind the wheel during the holiday season. "I think people are becoming more aware of the service," said coordinator Lois (Bunny) Burke. Headquartered at Flin Flon City Hall, Red Nose fielded seven calls on Friday night and another 15 on Saturday. Red Nose will operate every Friday and Saturday throughout the month, excluding Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. It also runs on Dec. 9 and 16. The hours extend to 4 a.m. on New Year's Eve. The service is free, but callers are encouraged to make a donation to the Rotary Club for youth-oriented projects. Operation Red Nose may be reached at 687-7331. (It's in the phonebook).
