After just wrapping up one wildly successful winter festival, residents are now anxiously readying for even more bundled-up fun. The 26th Annual Denare Beach Winter Festival goes next weekend with a variety of events that promise to suit a wide variety of tastes. "It's going to be three days of family fun and entertainment," said Natasha Thomson, Denare Beach recreation director. "It's always a good time and you don't want to miss it." Thomson commented that there's a sense of excitement in the area about the festival, particularly among the younger set. "The kids really love it because there's always so much for them to do," she smiled. The festival will kick off on Friday, February 27 at the Denareplex with the ever-popular Musher's Supper. The scrumptious roast beef buffet will be followed by live entertainment, family boot hockey, a jigging contest and more. The Denareplex will be the centre of all activities with the exception of the dart tournament at Raven's Roost Pub and, of course, the outdoor events. Saturday's events will include curling, bingo, a family fishing derby near Angell's Marina, and snowmobile drag races at Sawmill Bay. The fun stretches into the early evening with a wiener roast and skating party, also to be held at Sawmill Bay. Saturday night, popular area band The Res Boys will rock the house at a social that will go right through to the wee hours of Sunday morning. The festival will wrap up Sunday with a road hockey tournament, children's events, a snowmobile rally, to name but a few. See 'Volunteers' P.# Con't from P.# The horse-drawn wagon rides, always a favourite festival activity, will run both Saturday and Sunday. With busy days ahead of them, participants will want to get a filling breakfast in their bellies on Saturday and Sunday. They'll do just that at the pancake breakfast, organized by the Denare Beach Fire Department, at the Denareplex. As with most community events, the Denare Beach Winter Festival would not be possible without the help of volunteers. Thomson asks anyone who could lend a hand to contact her at 362-2170. The first ever Bust the Winter Blues Festival, held in Flin Flon and Creighton, took place over the weekend. The festival was born out of the merger of Flin Flon's Sled Dog Races and Creighton's Chilly Willy Winter Festival.
