The RCMP are looking for men and women. No, not as suspects in a crime, but to help them fight crime. Unfortunately cases are not wrapped up within an hour as they are on our favourite police dramas on TV. It takes numerous members with a variety of skills, talents, knowledge and countless hours of hard work to properly investigate and solve real life crime. On January 17 at 1 p.m. there will be a Recruiting Seminar held at council chambers in City Hall. The RCMP are inviting anyone from the general public who is interested in a career in the RCMP to attend. To start the presentation a member from the Winnipeg Recruiting Section will be providing information on the application process and what the job entails. He will then be able to answer any questions that may arise. A few of the junior local members will also be on hand to answer questions in regards to the training at Depot in Regina. Following that, a representative from the RCMP Lab in Winnipeg will share his knowledge and expertise in that field. He will advise of the opportunities that are open in that area. There will then be a talk from Cpl. Sullivan of the Police Dog Services in The Pas. The RCMP offers a variety of assignment areas to regular and civilian members. There are more than 700 detachments across Canada and in addition to that there are foreign postings and participation in international and peacekeeping missions. Duties in the RCMP include: Traffic Law Enforcement Protective Services Drug Enforcement Commercial Crime Police Dog Services Marine Services General Detachment Duties Air Services Identification Services Forensic Laboratory Services Equitation and Musical Ride Federal Policing Technical Security Services If a career in the RCMP is something that you have ever considered or had questions about, please feel free to attend the seminar. There will also be a brief seminar that evening at 7 p.m. on Monday, January 17 at Council Chambers in City Hall. Cst. McPherson from Recruiting will again be providing a presentation on the application process and what the RCMP has to offer. He will then conclude with a question period. If you have any questions about the upcoming Recruiting Seminars on Monday, January 17, please contact the local detachment at 687-7488.
