Flin Flon RCMP are investigating after a 17-year-old girl reported being sexually assaulted by a man last weekend.
The victim told police the assault occurred at a friend’s house on the evening of Saturday, Nov. 15.
“Initial investigation shows the victim was sexually assaulted by an adult male who was unknown to her,” said Tara Seel, a provincial spokesperson for the RCMP.
Seel said no further details will be released at this time in order to protect the identity of the victim.
The matter remains under investigation. No charges had been laid as of press time.
Charge laid
Meanwhile, a charge has been laid in a sexual assault that allegedly occurred on Company Road in Flin Flon on the night of June 4, 2014.
A 31-year-old man from Koostatak, Manitoba, has been charged with sexual assault. His next court appearance is scheduled for June of 2015.
Mounties released few details at the time of the incident but did say it involved an adult male and an adult female who were known to each other.
The incident was reported on June 5, 2014, the same day Flin Flon RCMP were notified of another alleged sexual assault – not a recent occurrence – on Princess Boulevard.
After an in-depth investigation, police determined this allegation to be unfounded, Seel said. No details were released.
Sexual assault is an umbrella term that is not limited to rape, as it can also refer to non-consensual touching or kissing.
Sexual assault has historically been a rare crime in Flin Flon, with five incidents reported in all of 2013, down from nine in 2012.
