Creighton and Flin Flon RCMP are instituting a new media initiative to assist police in apprehending suspects and solving crimes. This is in an effort to engage the public in cooperation to make for safer communities. The local RCMP detachments will be releasing the names, descriptions, and photographs of individuals currently charged with an offence or numerous offences who have failed to attend court or are evading police. These individuals will have warrants for their arrest, whether for minor offences (including provincial legislation such as traffic acts) or for more violent offences (such as Criminal Code charges of assault). The public is requested to assist police by notifying their nearest detachment immediately of any persons identified or suspected of having a warrant for their arrest. Under no circumstance should citizens attempt to apprehend these persons themselves, as these individuals may respond negatively to a person attempting to detain them prior to police attendance. Public safety is paramount and the location and whereabouts of these accused persons is secondary to the safety of witnesses. Citizens who believe they have identified a suspect wanted by police are requested to call police immediately with as much information as possible, including the believed person's name, current description, location or direction of travel, vehicle information if involved (most especially the licence plate number), and a time frame. Any person currently aware of being in warrant status, either from a minor offence or a Criminal Code offence (ie. impaired driving), is encouraged to call their local detachment and turn themselves in. In most circumstances this action would result in the execution of the warrant followed by subsequent release with another court date. The public is reminded that the issuance of such a document compels an accused to court and is not optional. Failure to attend court or have legal counsel or another person appear on your behalf results in the issuance of a warrant for arrest. The residents of Flin Flon, Creighton, Denare Beach and Cranberry Portage are all to be commended and thanked for their continued efforts in conjunction with police to ensure the continued safety of our communities. Without the assistance and active participation of the communities the RCMP serves, the police would be ineffective in conducting proactive investigations. The Flin Flon RCMP detachment can be reached at 204-687-1423. The Creighton RCMP detachment can be reached at 306-688-8888. Manitoba and Saskatchewan residents can contact Crime Stoppers, which offers cash rewards for information leading to arrests, at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Callers to Crime Stoppers remain anonymous. Messages can also be sent online by going to the Manitoba Crime Stoppers or Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers websites. _ Flin Flon and Creighton RCMP
