A combination of rain and the efforts of firefighters, volunteers and military personnel reduced the number of fires burning in Saskatchewan. As of Tuesday morning, the number was down to 72.

As of Tuesday morning, the number was down to 72. Another four fires had been put out with one new fire starting.

The La Ronge area, which has had a reported 247 fires this year, was down to 45 active fires.

As of Monday there had been 664 fires reported in Saskatchewan, including 242 in the Buffalo Narrows area, which had 23 fires still burning.

In the Prince Albert area, 175 fires were reported with four still burning.

Firefighters, trained volunteers and military personnel had extinguished 592 Saskatchewan fires this year.
