Jonathon Naylor Editor Fall weather may be settling in, but it was warming up at the Northern Lights Manor this week. Members of the North Star Quilt Guild visited the manor Tuesday to donate 43 cozy 'touch quilts' for the elderly residents. The quilts are designed to provide sensory stimulation to the seniors, including those suffering from Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia. The Guild stitched the quilts together as part of the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba's Touch Quilt Project. Most of the 30 squares on each lap quilt are made of a different material, giving seniors a variety of different textures to feel. While the quilts were dropped off at the Northern Lights Manor, some will be taken to the Personal Care Home as well. More touch quilts are expected to be donated, as this was merely the first batch.
