You're invited to a showcase of dozens of beautiful quilts. The North Star Quilt Guild will hold its 2004 Quilt Show this Friday (tomorrow) and Saturday at the R.H. Channing Auditorium. There will be over 160 quilts never before put on public display. Some of the quilts and wall hangings will be entered in the Quilt Canada Show in Winnipeg next month. Others have been featured in The Canadian Quilter magazine. Marg Lyle, one of the organizers, said the show will be a good chance for the public to see the result of hours of work on behalf of area quilters. "We'll have some older quilts that have been handed down through the generations, as well as new quilts," she said. The show will feature a quilt challenge in two categories Ñ Log Cabin and Blackford's Beauty. The guild has hired a judge to determine the winner. The public will be the ones to decide the winner in the Home Sweet Home category, in which quilters were to enter an unfinished quilt square. Each person stopping by will be invited to nominate their favourite square. After the show, the squares will be made into a quilt that will be donated to a local charity event. The show will also include demonstrations of different quilting techniques, not to mention quilts up for sale and ones to be raffled off. The Quilt Show 2004 will run tomorrow from 5-9 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The North Star Quilt Guild has about 125 members ranging in age from 18 to their 80s. They meet the third Tuesday of each month at the Northminster Memorial United Church on Bracken Street. Anyone interested in joining the guild may contact Marg at 687-6782 for more information.
