February was a quiet month for firefighters, who had to respond to just two calls during the month, both of which were false alarms. The first incident occurred on February 3, when a Third Avenue resident called to say she could see sparks coming from a chimney across the street. The fire chief soon determined the incident was a false alarm. The second false alarm came on February 16, when a caller stated that there was smoke inside a residence on First Avenue. Upon arrival, the fire chief concluded that the smoke came from a burner on a stove. There were five fire calls placed in February of 2003.
