A disturbing story has surfaced regarding a puppy found on an island on Deschambault Lake. Fortunately, the young dog is okay. Conservation officers Dan Robinson and Lorne Cridland, who work out of the Creighton office, were on a routine patrol on Deschambault Lake on Sunday, July 4, when they found the puppy hanging upside down from a tree. It had a rope tied around its right leg, apparently with a slip knot. Although the puppy is okay, she would have perished without that chance meeting with the Conservation officers on the small island. The puppy is mostly a Labrador breed, female, and just under three months old. It was taken to Debbie Hiebert at Stillwater Kennels where it has been nursed back to health. "Her leg was badly swollen and initially she didn't have full use of the leg," noted Debbie. "And she was starving, which was noticeable from her dull coat." Since arriving at the kennels, the puppy's swelling has gone down, especially after receiving the appropriate medication. Named Torrie, the young (and very friendly) dog now needs to find a good home. "If we could find her a home, it would be a perfect ending to this story," said Hiebert. Anyone interested in helping find Torrie a home, please phone Stillwater Kennels at 687-4494.
