A Pukatawagan man has been identified as the victim of Winnipeg’s 32nd homicide this year.
Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) general patrol officers were called at about 11:15 a.m. August 31 to the 800 block of Arlington Street, a residential neighbourhood just south of the CP Rail yard, receiving a call for a man who had been assaulted.
When WPS arrived, officers found an adult male stabbed. The man was taken to hospital but ultimately died of his wounds.
The victim has been identified as 47-year-old Darrell Joseph Dumas. Originally from Pukatawagan, Dumas had been living in Winnipeg before his death.
Less than a kilometre away, WPS found and arrested a suspect at the 400 block of Maryland Street. The alleged perpetrator, 21-year-old Harley Eugene Nepinak of Winnipeg, is facing a charge of second degree murder in Dumas’ death. Nepinak was also subject to an arrest warrant before he was found.
A court date for Nepinak has not yet been announced.
WPS and the department’s homicide unit are continuing to investigate the crime. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact WMP at (204) 986-6508 or contact Crime Stoppers anonymously at (204) 786-TIPS (8477).
