Not everyone within Mathias Colomb First Nation is happy with the Pukatawagan-based band’s plan to purchase the Port of Churchill and Hudson Bay Rail Line.

CBC.ca reports that from Jan. 19 to 21, five older women in Pukatawagan held a hunger strike to protest what they and others believe is a lack of information about the planned purchase.

Chief Arlen Dumas told CBC that many members of his band support the purchase and that he plans to release a report on the deal to his members in the coming weeks.

The band has made an offer to buy the port and rail line and invited other First Nations to join an ownership group, CBC previously reported.
