Province mum

Taxpayers are erecting a new building at Hapnot Collegiate without being told why – at least for a while.
As The Reminder reported Monday, unofficial sources say the new building going up in the Hapnot parking lot will house a vocational training centre and a minibus garage.
But the official source – the Manitoba government – refuses to confirm the purpose of the building until a formal announcement involving the different partners is arranged.
A government spokesperson said Education Minister James Allum is to be on site, along with project partners, for the announcement at a yet-to-be determined date.
The spokesperson did confirm that the project ties into the province’s plan to add 75,000 skilled workers to Manitoba’s economy by 2020.
The spokesperson agreed to contact The Reminder in the next couple of weeks to arrange an interview with Allum ahead of the formal announcement.
Preparatory work for a new building in the student parking lot area of Hapnot began last week.
