If mineral exploration represents the future of the Flin Flon-Snow Lake region, then the future has gotten brighter. The Manitoba government announced yesterday more than $120,000 in assistance for mineral exploration throughout the region. Each of the nine exploration sites is within 100 kilometres of either Flin Flon or Snow Lake. The approved projects consist of: $44,870 to Foran Mining Corp. for gold exploration. $25,170 to W. Bruce Dunlop Ltd. for two exploration projects for gold and diamonds. $13,340 to Aurora Pacific Consulting and Development Corp. for diamond and platinum exploration. $13,200 to Buhlmann and Associates Inc. for gold exploration. $9,850 to Pioneer Metals Corp. for gold exploration. $6,270 to Strider Resources Ltd. for gold exploration. $6,150 to Hudson Bay Exploration and Development Co. Ltd. for copper and zinc exploration. $3,570 to Athapap Gold Inc. for gold exploration. These were among 50 exploration projects approved throughout the province, with nearly $20 million in assistance provided. The money came through the government's Mineral Exploration Assistance Program, MEAP. "These new exploration projects create jobs and bolster the economy of our province and our north in particular," said Industry, Economic Development and Mines Minister Scott Smith in a press statement. "Our exploration incentives, combined with Manitoba's mineral potential for gold, nickel, diamonds and other precious and base metals, continue to make the province an attractive target for exploration."
