A sprinkler system for the Personal Care Home and a power upgrade at the hospital are among new health care infrastructure investments for Flin Flon.
The Manitoba government announced this week it would pump more than $4.2 million into those facilities as well as the Northern Lights Manor.
“This ongoing commitment to maintain the infrastructure within the region means we can focus on delivering the clinical services our residents need, when and where they need them,” Helga Bryant, chief executive officer of the Northern Health Region (NHR), said in a news release.
The projects include nearly $1.4 million to install a sprinkler system at the Personal Care Home. The facility does not currently have sprinklers.
Another $1.2 million will upgrade the emergency power system at the Flin Flon General Hospital.
Nearly $820,000 will be spent to upgrade operating rooms at the hospital, including a replacement air-handling unit, electrical upgrades, an improved layout and a new surgical bed.
Additional investments are $150,000 for kitchen renovations at the Personal Care Home and $20,000 for new kitchen ducts and exhaust fans at the Northern Lights Manor.
“These investments will ensure important safety projects, new equipment and updated technology are provided to help maintain these facilities for years to come,” said Health Minister Sharon Blady.
A government news release did not mention when the projects will be completed.
Meanwhile, Blady said planning is nearly complete on the expansion and redevelopment of the Flin Flon hospital emergency department and admitting area.
A tender is expected to be released in the coming weeks for the project, which she said will help the region recruit and retain more high-quality care providers.
The NHR hosted its annual general meeting and health summit at the RH Channing Auditorium on Tuesday, Oct. 27, the same day the province announced the funding.
