Twenty-one people can look forward to developing new cottage lots at Big Island, Sourdough Bay, or the Millwater subdivision. The province has opened up the new lots in response to a strong demand for more lakefront property. Because the demand was so high, the province recently held a lottery among people applying to purchase the available lots. "I've heard that there's a big demand for these cottage lots," said Mayor Dennis Ballard in a previous interview. "I've heard people say, 'If this government wants to do something for me, get me a cottage lot.'" The new lots are 1,500 sq. ft. or greater and nearly all were priced at $5,000. They are among the 700 new lots the government opened up across the province earlier this year. The province is still in the process of identifying an additional 300 lots across the province that will be made available through a draw next year. "We are pleased to be following through on our promise to create more opportunities for Manitobans to enjoy our spectacular natural areas," said Conservation Minister Stan Struthers in a press release release. "This initiative will increase opportunities for Manitobans and their families and contribute positively to our tourism industry." Also made available were 12 lots at Wekusko Lake outside Snow Lake and one lot in Cranberry Portage. The province encourages all successful applicants to make an on-site examination of their lot prior to attending a special lot selection meeting slated for August 5. Here are the lot recipients, as posted on the Manitoba Conservation website: Big Island Shayne Brown; Pamela Campbell; Justin Harrison; David Henderson; Kent Newman; Liana Newman; Beverley Pageau; Bev Racicot; Jill Rideout; Lisa Robillard Sourdough Bay Troy Doll; Kent Hucaluk; Ashley Kennedy; David Kennedy; Wilma Smith Millwater Karen Bargen; Fiona Ham; James McGregor; Linda McKinnon; Jim Quinn; Gayle Yungwirth Wekusko Lake Hans Beil; Cullen Bingeman; Stephen Davies; Malcolm Dundas; Chris Kading; J.
