Submitted by Flin Flon RCMP Sometime during the evening hours of July 8 through the morning hours of July 9, Flin Flon RCMP received four complaints of "car shopping" by youth in the uptown area of Flin Flon. Flin Flon RCMP again would like to remind residents of last summer's rash of thefts/mischief to vehicles by youths, which was termed car shopping by local youths. Check doors The individuals involved check vehicle doors until they find one that is open, or in some instances if they see something in the vehicles of value, they will actually break a window to get in. Suggestions for preventing car shopping incidents: Never leave items of value in your vehicle. Ensure that vehicles are always locked when you are not in them. Park in a secure area, or one well lit (if need be install additional lighting). Install and use a quality vehicle alarm. Protect yourself and your neighbours by keeping an eye on each others property. Report suspicious activity in your neighbourhood to the police. Most property crimes in Flin Flon are crimes of opportunity. Taking reasonable steps to remove the opportunity will help reduce the crime.
