Last month’s sudden closure of the Prospector Inn was a serious blow to Flin Flon and area.
A lot of good, hard-working people were left jobless. Creighton lost a major drawing card.
And the hundreds if not thousands of people who visit our area each year have one less option for accommodations.
The reason for the closure has been the subject of rumour and speculation, none of it publicly confirmed. The Reminder has been unable to reach anyone from the motel for comment.
Fortunately, by many indications the Prospector was a booming business in the past and can replicate that success again in the future.
The motel, complete with a restaurant and lounge, is now up for sale. At least one group of local investors has toyed with the idea of buying and reviving the business.
There is certainly room for another motel and restaurant in our area. Let us all hope that a new ownership does indeed step up to the plate and take advantage of this opportunity.
There is every reason to be confident that the Prospector won’t sit empty for long – and that the jobs that were lost will return to our communities.
