A Regina-based exploration company will spend $250,000 to further examine land outside of Creighton that could one day play an important role in the local mining industry. Seagrove Capital Corporation has optioned a separate company to conduct drilling and geophysical work on a prospect located along the Hanson Lake Road in the Beatty Lake area, 12 kilometres west of the HBMS smelter. The work is expected to take place within the next two weeks. "I'm pretty optimistic that there's something worthwhile spending money on and following up on," said Shaun Spelliscy, chief of exploration for Seagrove. "It's still hard to find a minable deposit of anything, but it's elephant country there, that close to Flin Flon." Last year, Seagrove reported finding what was later termed the "Goldilocks Prospect," containing gold, silver nickel and some rare earth metals. The prospect covers some 600 acres of land. Previous sampling was limited to a small area where the main mineralizing event is believed to have occurred. Intercepts from a diamond drill program showed the prospect contained 3.84 grams of gold per tonne and 2.49 grams of silver per tonne. The upcoming drilling and geophysical work will attempt to provide Seagrove with a more detailed analysis of the prospect. "The main interest is the gold," commented Spelliscy. Spelliscy said that one of the previous samples contained five per cent nickel, which is "ridiculously high for nickel." "As of this date, the nickel anomaly is still unexplained," he said. "If there's nickel there, it's just going to be a bonus." Seagrove invested one-fifth of its 2003 exploration budget into the prospect, and the company is optimistic the land will one day be mined. Should that happen, Spelliscy said Seagrove would partner up with a larger company. Aside from promising metal levels, the location of the Goldilocks Prospect makes it an appealing claim. "The best place to look for a new mine is in the shadow of an existing headframe," said Spelliscy in a previous interview. "The nice thing about this particular claim is access. It's right off the highway, and you don't get better access than that anywhere. "You can be in Flin Flon in a few minutes, so you don't need a camp. You don't need everything brought in by air, so your cost in dealing with a claim such as this basically doubles the amount of work you can get done because you don't have those added costs." Seagrove Capital Corporation is a midsize exploration company that focuses on metals, diamonds and oil in Manitoba and Saskatchewan. Details of the metal levels in the Goldilocks Prospect were provided by Seagrove. The numbers were not confirmed by a third-party source.
