Mark's Work Warehouse has forwarded a proposal to the property owner to build a new store at the Flintoba Shopping Centre, a spokesperson for the clothing retailer said yesterday. Carol Talbot of Canadian Tire, which owns the Mark's Work Warehouse chain, said the company is waiting for a response from the landowner, Winnipeg-based Kraft Construction. "Basically, there's no movement at this point," she said from her officer in Toronto. "We're still waiting for a response... to our proposal." A spokesperson for Kraft Construction could not be reached for comment as of press time. Talbot would not say that the proposal means a Mark's Work Warehouse store in Flin Flon is imminent. "We're just investigating opportunities at this point," she said, adding that she couldn't say how likely it is the store will become a reality. Talbot confirmed to The Reminder last month that the clothing retailer has "a definite interest" in setting up shop in Flin Flon. In February of 2002, the Mark's Work Warehouse chain was acquired by Canadian Tire, which is slated to open at new store at the Flintoba Shopping Centre next month. "I think that there's an opportunity (in Flin Flon) because Canadian Tire now owns Mark's Work Warehouse," said Talbot in a previous interview. "There's an opportunity for us to have easier entry into certain markets, so that's what we're exploring in Flin Flon." With just over 300 stores across the country, Mark's Work Warehouse is a major player in the Canadian clothing market, selling men's and ladies' wear for formal, casual and work settings.
