Flin Flon is full of older buildings, and it shows in the value of homes throughout the community. According to Statistics Canada, the average home in Flin Flon is worth $33,000 less than the provincial average. The bureau states that the average home in the community (Flin Flon, Man. and Flin Flon, Sask. combined) is worth $64,655. Meanwhile, the average home value in Manitoba is $97,670. The bureau also found that just 1.6 per cent Flin Flon homes (40 in total) were built between 1991 and 2001. During that same ten-year period, 38,900 new homes went up across the province. Their data showed that 1,940 of the Flin Flon dwellings were owned, while 670 were rented. The average renter paid $443 per month, according to the data. The figures were based on information obtained from the latest national census, conducted in 2001. In other Statistics Canada news, the national unemployment rate fell 0.4 percentage points in October compared to September. The October rate stood at 7.6 per cent.
