Creighton RCMP have noticed an increase in property offenses over the last six weeks, town council heard last week. 'Property offenses are up with...things like slashed tires and painting vehicles,' reported Sgt. Mark Svaren. The RCMP didn't just report property offenses, as there were a total of 197 reports made during the month of July. Of those 197 reports, Svaren told council that 13 were unfounded. 'It hasn't been a very restful summer. The clearance rate seems steady,' he said. Svaren also reported that the RCMP will be looking for a new new school rep for the Community Policing Board this year. The RCMP and Creighton Community School have worked together in the past and hope to continue to do so. Last week's meeting also included a request from council for the public to stay away from the columbarium with ATVs and other vehicles. 'It was suggested that boulders be placed around to keep the ATVs off of the site until the budget allows for fencing,' read notes from a meeting of the Environmental, Public Health and Environmental Development Committee. Other meeting highlights: Council received an invitation from the Relay for Life committee to participate in the 12-hour event to fight cancer. Council received a letter from the North of 54 Cottage Owners Association. It explained that the association 'is attempting to develop a fire services agreement similar to the one The Pas has.' Council referred the letter to the Protective Services Committee for further review. Council approved a tender to complete work at the public works shop at a cost of $5,500, taxes included. Council approved a request that the 'Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation enter into a Mutual Aid Agreement for the Rescue unit and the Jaws of Life for the Pelican Narrows, Jan Lake, and Sandy Bay roads.'
