It seemed like an appealing product with an unappealing name, but Flin Flon city council won’t be taking a chance on Rhino Snot.
Rhino Snot is a road-building material used to create a hardened surface on streets prior to paving.
Coun. Bill Hanson spoke of the product last year, touting it as a potential cost-saver for the city.
But “when we started running the numbers, it was just way out of the ballpark,” Coun. Hanson said this week.
Rhino Snot is named for both its sticky texture and Camp Rhino, a military base in Afghanistan where it was once used, according to the Prince Albert Daily Herald.
The product’s full name is Rhino Snot Canada Earth Glue.
Coun. Hanson mentioned the product last year amid questions over the city’s practice of digging up freshly paved roads to conduct piping repairs.
Speaking to The Reminder this week, Coun. Hanson said the city is always looking for newer, cheaper ways of doing business.
“It would be great for us to find some sort of alternative [to pavement], that’s for sure,” he said. “It’s a huge cost.”
