Flin Flon Neighbourhood Revitalization Corp. will be conducting an oral history project in Flin Flon this fall, thanks to a grant from Service Canada's New Horizons For Seniors Program. Its purpose is to record for posterity the memories of those who can recall the early days of Flin Flon. We hope to gather lots of recollections that are not found anywhere else. To that end we'd love to talk to any seniors who would be interested in participating in this project, either by being interviewed, helping us locate people to interview or by directing our attention to things that should be recorded for posterity. We are proud to announce that we have retained Gerry Clark to act as chief interviewer on this oral history project, called Collecting the Memories of Flin Flon. For most Flin Flonners, Clark needs no introduction given his long career as a history teacher at Hapnot Collegiate, the numerous history articles he has written and the many local history projects he has been involved with over the years. The intent of the project is to preserve for posterity as many memories as we can of the early days of Flin Flon. It is clear the history books only tell half the story when it comes to the history of Flin Flon. We're hoping the seniors of our community can help us with the other half, as yet undocumented. But we know it is a race against time, as our pioneer generation and their children fade from the scene. Our goal is to make recordings of as many of their recollections as we can, while time still remains. To that end we need your help. We need seniors willing to be interviewed for this project, anyone who can help us find them, and people who can point out to us stories worth recording for posterity. This project will see Clark and others interview Flin Flon seniors through the fall of 2013. If you would like to be involved or would simply like more information, please call us at 204-687-6972. _ Compiled from Flin Flon Neighbourhood Revitalization Corp. news releases
