Jonathon Naylor Editor The city, province and private industry are joining forces to give motorists a less bumpy ride near Channing. Work to replace the base of the Schist Lake Road, between Channing and the Creighton Freeway, was to begin shortly and wrap up, scheduling permitting, before snowfall. The municipal and Manitoba governments are each chipping in about $60,000, as is Preferred Sands, a sand miner whose heavy trucks often use the road. Part of the project _ pavement grinding and overlay between Star Auto Body Shop and Wings Over Kississing _ has already been completed. At their meeting last week, city council formally entered into an agreement with Preferred Sands for the project. It will involve only the Manitoba portion of the road. In another matter, council voted to waive the purchase price on the vacant lot at 308 Centennial Crescent provided the buyer builds a home worth at least $150,000. For every $1,000 in value above that amount, the city will deduct $50 from the debenture fee. This is the same deal council recently extended to vacant lots on Roche and Murton boulevards. Council also agreed to contribute $200 to a reception for Manitoba delegates at the Manitoba Mining and Minerals Convention to be held next month in Winnipeg. As well, the animal control officer's September report stated that one dog was captured. It was redeemed.
